Lost: Final Thoughts

Lost is a show that TMIAJ has watched since the beginning but has never once mentioned it on the site.  Now after letting the finale settle in, some final thoughts to share with you on one of the best television shows of all time.Obviously this is not spoiler free, so if you haven't watched it yet then stop reading.
"Guys, where are we?" asked Charlie in the very first episode of the show.  They were in a magical and scientifically interesting island that could give people the ability to seemingly live forever, be healed of illness, bring down airplanes with electromagnetism bursts, and cause people to question their beliefs in faith and science and find their own path on the island.  Everything on the island was real and it was the most important and best time in these strangers life.  They came together in a plane crash because it was meant to be.  As mystery after mystery unfolded so did question after question.  Some were answered and some left alone.  Does it matter exactly what the island was? No, just know that it was an amazing and sometimes frightening place.  What exactly was the "Light" that Jacob was protecting?  Well according to Jacob it was the essence of all life across the world.  If it went out then everything ceased.  Religious connections or not, that's what it was.  I guess you could say it was the heart of earth. Why did the man in black have no name?  Because he was never given one.  He was Jacob's opposite.  One good. One evil.  What was the smoke monster?  Well it could be considered to be the root of all evil but whatever it was, it could take over a human form.  First the man in black and then Locke.  It lost it's power when the light went out and that is when Jack was able to kill it.  How did the pool heal Sayid?  How did the wheel exactly make the island travel through time? How did Witmoore discover the island initially?  How did the polar bears get there?  Many questions left unanswered but when you really think about it, these are best left for interpretation and to the wonders of the island.

In the last few minutes of the final episode, Jack's father reappears and it's revealed that the "sideways alternate reality" was actually a place between the living and the light.  Lost was very careful to stay away from religious words, but you could say they were in a sorta purgatory if you would before they went to heaven or hell.  The light when Christian opens the doors is the path to judgement I believe for the lives they led.  Christian tells his son that this was the place they created so that they could find each other again because they needed each other.  The time on the island was the biggest thing in their lives and some died before jack and some after.  Did Hurley go on to be the new "Jacob" and protect the island?  Yes he did and he could have lived another year or thousands of more years.  In their "place" time had no meaning it was simply that they were all waiting to get there together and to help Jack "let go".  From the very first scene of episode 1 to the final scene when Jack's eye closes, it was about Jack in so many ways.  It was about all of these people but he was the driving force that helped them survive and eventually reunite in their special place so that they could move on.  Why did Ben stay behind?  Because he wasn't ready.  He was forming a relationship with his daughter Alex in this world and he wanted to pursue it further until the time was right for him to be judged.  There's so much to think about in Lost and some reveals are right in front of you even if you don't see them.  Ben must have eventually been redeemed for all of his wrong doings if he was in that place.  Otherwise he would have been meant to walk the island like Michael and others did.  So where was Michael and Ecko in the reunion at the end.  Perhaps they never found redemption and were still walking the island.  We will never know.
At it's heart Lost was about the characters and their journey.  The island was the backdrop to tell the story of these flawed people who were in the end just looking for a happier better life.  On the island they found that.  Sun and Jin found a stronger love.  Sawyer and Juliet found a bond.  Sayid and Shannon.  Hurley and Libby. Jack and Kate.  See a pattern here.  Lost was a love story in so many ways also.  The island helped them find what they had been searching for even it wasn't obvious to them all.  When they came back together in the finale in their "place" they realized it and it was time to move on.

Was the finale perfect? No.  They seemed to give a big reveal for what only basically happened in season 6.  That being the sideways reality.  That kinda got to me at first.  This huge reveal that only affected the last season, but then I had to sit and  think about it.  Some people are saying that season 1 through 5 didn't matter then.  Yes it did.  It was about the journey these people went on.  With so much hype behind it, the producers were not going to please everyone.  But I think they wrapped it up quite nicely and if you really think about it for a moment, it was a beautiful ending that made sense.  All these people we followed for six years that we loved at times and hated at times, we realized that in the end we cared about all of them and were rooting for them to better themselves.  And in "The End" they found peace and were reunited at "the light" to move on find that happiness.
Were more questions left with the finale?  Of course, it wouldn't be Lost without it, but the journey is over and watch it all again, you will see clues and such that I think will all help it make more sense to you if you hated it.  Who was the Dharma Initiative exactly? How did Jacob get his powers? What about the bird that called Hurley's name? Did Desmond make it back to Penny after the finale? How exactly did the black powder keep the smoke monster at bay? What did the blood on Jack's neck signify the last season?  The last one is simple, but the questions go on and Lost will remain an amazing piece of television history.

Megan Fox Out Of Transformers 3

So Megan Fox announced that she will not be in Transformers 3.  It's a shame because at least it gave the films something to look at it besides the giant fucking robots.  Especially in part 2 since the movie was so long and full of sucktitude that at least Megan was there for our eyes.  But hey this story gave me an excuse to run these smoking hot pictures of her.  Now let's hope Michael Bay actually can find a good script for part 3 and make a good Transformers film.  Ya, right who am I kidding.

Green Lantern's Hector Hammond

Very few set photos have leaked out so far from the upcoming Green Lantern film. but here's one of actor Peter Sarsgaard in full mushroom-head makeup as villain Hector Hammond.

In the comics, the character exposes himself to a strange meteor which cause his brain to grow to enormous proportions and vests him with an array of psionic abilities. In the film version, Hammond is the son of a former astronaut (played by Tim Robbins) who is exposed to alien technology carried to Earth by Abin Sur.

Green Lantern hits theaters in 2011, with the first trailer debuting this July on Clash Of The Titans DVD's.
