About a year ago TMIAJ began a series of reports and articles on Pearl Jam. Why? Because we love Pearl Jam, one of the greatest American rock bands to ever play music, and the past year the band has been celebrating their 20th Anniversary, all accumulating with the Cameron Crowe documentary film Pearl Jam Twenty, in select theaters September 20th. This weekend the band is holding the Pearl Jam Destination Weekend, a series of concerts featuring multiple bands in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin to celebrate the bands 20th Anniversary. The celebration continues in a few weeks with the film's soundtrack release and a book documenting the band. Since last October of 2010, TMIAJ has been helping to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the world's greatest rock n' roll bands, Pearl Jam. The celebration comes to full circle this September when the documentary film, Pearl Jam Twenty, has it's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, then select screenings across the world before being released on DVD/Blu-Ray in October. Pearl Jam continues their 20th Anniversary with the recently announced PJ20 Festival in Alpine Valley Wisconsin on Labor Day Weekend, as well as a Canadian tour. There will also be a film titled Pearl Jam Twenty due in theaters in September, along with a soundtrack and companion book. Here is the official press release for the film:
Pearl Jam Twenty is being released by Abramorama, the distributor who handled the recent Foo Fighters documentary. The movie will release in September, followed by the PBS airing and a DVD release in October. Told in big themes and bold colors with blistering sound, Pearl Jam Twenty chronicles the years leading up to the band’s formation, the chaos that ensued soon-after being catapulted into superstardom, their step back from the spotlight with the instinct of self-preservation, and the creation of a trusted circle that would surround them—giving way to a work culture that would sustain them. The film celebrates the freedom that allows the band to make music without losing themselves, their fans, or the music lovers they’d always been.
“When I set out to make this film, my mission was to assemble the best-of-the best from Pearl Jam’s past and present and give audiences a visceral feeling of what it is to love music and to feel it deeply—to be inside the journey of a band that has carved their own path,” said Cameron Crowe. “There is only one band of their generation for which a film like this could even be made, and I’m honored to be the one given the opportunity to make it.” Lead singer Eddie Vedder has also been busy, as his new solo album titled Ukulele Songs hits stores May 31st, along with a concert film on DVD titled Water On The Road. TMIAJ continues the celebration of Pearl Jam's 20th Anniversary and in stores today is the re-release editions of their landmark 1993 and 1994 albums, Vs. and Vitalogy. You can find them as separate special editions with three bonus tracks on each or a 3 -CD box set featuring Live At The Orpheum Theater 1994 included in the set. TMIAJ's recognition of Pearl Jam's 20th Anniversary continues! The band has many special things planned this year to recognize their 20 years and it all started with a new live album back in January. The anniversary continues on March 29th as a deluxe packaged re-release of their landmark albums, Vs. and Vitalogy hit stores. They will be sold in multiple editions available at pearljam.com and this is just the beginning. TMIAJ continues to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Pearl Jam. In 2009 Pearl Jam closed down the Philadelphia Spectrum with four nights of amazing shows to conclude their U.S. Backspacer Tour. The shows featured songs from throughout the band's vast catalog as well as some rare covers. TMIAJ did a story on the shows here, and now a pro-shot video of the song "Got Some" from the Occtober 31, 2009 show has shown up to promote the release of the band's new live album, Live On Ten Legs, possibly for European Markets. Whatever the reason it exists, it is awesome and worth watching!
The celebration of Pearl Jam's 20th anniversary continues here at TMIAJ and will do so throughout the year. This week marks 20 years of a horrible tragedy in which a young man took his own life in front of his classroom in Richardson, Texas. Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder read about this in a newspaper and was inspired to write what would become a Pearl Jam classic, the song "Jeremy". The music video for the song went on to critical acclaim and won many awards. It also caused controversy due to the ending of the video where the kid is shown with the gun in his mouth. “We did five different versions [of the ending],” director Mark Pellington has said. “One where the kid brings the gun up to his mouth and its blurred and then you cut in closer and you see his head sligtly move… [is] the unedited version, which is what I show to people and I have shown in public at screenings. it’s still very subtle but it’s clearer what happens. Right as he puts it in his mouth it cuts to ‘3:30 in the afternoon, an affluent suburb.’” So we present to you the "Jeremy" video below as well as a live version of the song from the 1992 MTV Video Awards.!

The art of the concert rock poster was very popular in the 1960's and 70's but many of today's music artists have gotten away from it and no longer use them to promote shows. Pearl Jam however, has always embraced it and over the years hundreds of posters have been produced to commemorate Pearl Jam's live performances. On October 22, 1990, five guys would take to the stage and the rest as they say was history. 20 years ago to this day Pearl Jam, one of the most prolific rock bands of the last two decades took the stage for the first time and beginning today, TMIAJ begins a year long celebration of one of the best bands on the planet. We will be bringing you articles, videos, facts, memorabilia, and all sorts of goodies spread out over the next year on TMIAJ, probably on a bi-weekly basis. We hope you enjoy!
"Have I Got A Little Story For You..." The first song many of us heard from Pearl Jam was "Alive". It was the summer anthem in 1991, being jammed out on car stereos and everywhere else just before the album Ten hit stores in August of that same year. The adventure began however over a year before with a cassette, Known as the "Momma-Son" tape, the songs were demos that Stone Gossard had put together and for additional instruments he brought along Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Matt Cameron. Stone and Jeff had played in Mother Love Bone together, while Mike was a friend and Matt was in Soundgarden. Mother Love Bone had just released a recent album but the untimely death of lead singer Andrew Wood, left the band broken, and Jedd and Stone looking to form a new band. The tape made it's way into a young surfer's hands named Eddie Vedder. Eddie's own band Bad Radio had just broken up themselves so Ed was spending his time working at a gas station and surfing. Ed was friends with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons, who knew Stone, and he passed the tape onto Ed. Ed used a four track to record some vocals over the demos and sent them back in September of 1990. The three songs he recorded were, "Alive", "Footsteps", and "Once". Very few people have ever seen the actual cassette with the notes and cover Ed put on it, but the picture above is a reproduction that the band included in the deluxe edition of Ten released last year. Jedd and Stone really dug this young singer's raw emotion and style and they asked him to come out to Seattle to jam. They came up with a few more songs and a month later they were playing their first show calling themselves Mookie Blaylock. On October 22, 1990 they would play their first show at The Off Ramp in Seattle, Washington. About 300 people witnessed history as Ed, Mike, Jeff, Stone, and drummer Matt Chamberlin, who would only be with the band a short time took the stage and rocked. They played eight songs, and it was the beginning of something special.

Mookie Blaylock was a basketball figure. Story has it that one of the guys had the player's basketball card in his backpack and they used it as a name until they came up with a more permanent number. They would also name their first album, Ten, after Blaylock's jersey number. They would call themselves this until March of 1991 and toured a lot in the Northwest region with Alice In Chains and other bands. To the left you can check out an early handbill advertising the band as Mookie Blaylock. That same month they would begin recording their debut album in Seattle. "Alive" hit radio that summer and on August 27, 1991, Ten hit record stores. The band would release a video for "Alive" featuring a live performance style video wanting to capture the energy they produced when playing live. This was followed by releasing "Even Flow" as the next single along with another live performance video and the buzz was beginning to build. Their live shows began to become legendary and then they got a spot on a tour with The Smashing Pumpkins and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Part of the tour would be spent with Nirvana after The Smashing Pumpkins finished their leg of the tour. Night after night it was Pearl Jam stealing the show. People were amazed at the energy and power of the band and Eddie Vedder's on stage theatrics would become legend themselves. He would climb rafters, stage dive into crowds, and give it 110 percent every single night on stage. Ten was slowly taking off and as 1992 rolled around, the band would hit Europe for some shows before returning to the United States to take a spot on the stage at Lollapalooza, and the legend would grow even further. The song "Jeremy" would hit radio with an amazing and thought provoking video, and the sales of Ten went through the roof. Pearl Jam was quickly becoming one of the, if not the, biggest band on the planet!
Since the release of Ten, Pearl Jam has released nine studio albums, a collection of b-sides, two official live albums and a live boxed set, hundreds of live "official" bootlegs, five DVD releases, several fan club vinyl singles, soundtrack appearances, eight music videos, and played thousands of shows over the years. They are well respected and their music is as important tot eh land of rock n' roll as it ever was. Today marks the 20th anniversary of their first show, so from now throughout the winter, spring, and summer of the next year, we celebrate Pearl Jam. Young Guns II:Young Guns II was released August 1, 1990 and was a sequel to the wildly popular Young Guns from 1988. Billy "The Kid" and his gang are on the run and wanted by the law. When "Doc" Scurlock and Chavez are captured, Billy and the rest of the Regulators has to save them. They escape and set south for Mexico. "Let's hire a thief to catch one", John S. Chisum said, so he paid Pat Garrett, one of Billy's former partners, $1000 for the killing of William H. Bonney aka Billy "The Kid"
The movie begins with the aging Brushy Bill Roberts narrating his story to a young historian. His claim? He claims that he is the famous outlaw William H. Bonney, alias Billy the Kid, who was supposedly shot and killed by Patrick Floyd Garrett in 1881. The old man gives a very convincing story on how he and Garrett, along with Arkansas Dave Rudabaugh, Chavez y Chavez, Doc Skurlock, and a few others led the outlaw life and avoided the law, as they were wanted men. Garrett, a friend of Billy's, was paid by John Chisum, a cattle king, to eliminate Billy the Kid. So, Garrett and Ashmun Upson set out on a journey to find Billy the Kid. As Billy "The Kid" and his gang are on the run and wanted by the law, "Doc" Scurlock and Chavez are captured, Billy and the rest of the Regulators set out to save them and when they do, they escape and set south for Mexico. Of course the rest is history as eventually Garret does catch up to Billy and as history has it, he kills Billy who refuses to be captured. in this film version, the narrator Brushy Bill Roberts holds to his claim that he is indeed Billy The Kid.
One Day, I'm Gonna Run Around With Hobbits
The film is a wild fun western as was the original with some great action and a fun cast including Emilio Estevez, Keifer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Christian Slater, and a young Viggo Mortenson (above). It also includes one of the best on screen ass shots in cinema as you can see below.

Overall, Young Guns II is a fun western and a decent sequel. It also was the beginning of alot of great dumb fun action movies made in the 1990's. If you haven't seen it check it out, it's worth a couple of hours of your time, and hell, even Bon Jovi has an appearance in it and he did the song for the soundtrack.
Korn recently performed from a crop circle playing hits and songs from their new album “Korn III – Remember Who You Are” will land in stores tomorrow, July 13th, through Roadrunner. The performance is being shown on HDNet and you can watch it here.
Alice In Chains has teamed up with Popcult / Devil's Due Comics for a contest to give fans the chance to add their own chapter to the controversial storyline depicted in the video for the band's current single "Your Decision".
The "Your Decision" comic picks up where the video leaves off, fans will determine how the story ends. A tumblelog page featuring a master storyboard with comic's opening chapter of the story can be found at aliceinchains.com/yourdecision.
Fans are challenged to post suggestions for what you think should happen in the next chapter (in 150 words or less). Once approved, all new chapter posts are viewable to the public. They can be read, commented on and "liked" by other users. At each chapter stage, the submission with the most "likes" will be the winner. Each winning submission will be elevated to the master storyboard and guide the path the story takes next. Winning entrants will see their chapter illustrated by Pop Cult / Devil's Due Comics, and immortalized into the "Your Decision" comic book.
